Zarmehr Marlik Factory, relying on local technical knowledge and domestic expertise, has become one of the pioneers of Iran’s gold and mining industry. This factory not only plays an important role in gold production and mineral processing, but also, with special attention to sustainable development and environmental protection, is considered a successful model in the country’s industry.
The difficult path to establishment and industrial self-sufficiency
In an interview with us, Engineer Ali Akbar Noqabi, senior consultant to the Zarmehr Marlik factory, spoke about the challenges of establishing and developing this factory. According to him, the Zarmehr Marlik factory was officially opened in 2018 and is one of the first gold production factories in the private sector in Iran.
Referring to the factory’s start of operations in 2008, Engineer Noghabi emphasized: “At the beginning, we did not have any foreign consultants or ready-made industrial plans. Even basic equipment such as cars or telephones were not available. Except for a ball mill that was purchased from abroad, all the machinery and production equipment were designed and manufactured domestically by Zarmehr Marlik Company. This measure not only prevented the outflow of foreign currency, but was also an important step towards the country’s self-sufficiency.”
He added: “All stages of the plant’s launch, from the concentrate section to final processing, were carried out relying on local knowledge and Iranian specialists.”
Innovation and reducing dependence on foreign resources Engineer Noghabi pointed out the factory’s achievements in reducing dependence on foreign resources and said: “The chemicals and equipment needed for gold processing, including cyanide, which were previously imported, are now produced domestically. This has not only led to self-sufficiency, but has also increased the factory’s production capacity.”
He also announced the launch of a 24-carat gold coin minting unit under the Parsis brand, adding: “This unit operates with a license from the Central Bank and has been able to produce pure, standard, and diverse products. The equipment and production process in this unit are more advanced than many similar domestic ones.”
Environmental protection; main priority
Environmental protection is one of the main focuses of the Zarmehr Marlik factory’s activities. Engineer Noghabi explained this: “In the past, some of the production processes caused water and environmental pollution, but now, by installing advanced filtration systems, filter presses, and using a water recycling cycle, pollution has been minimized. Water consumption in the factory has been reduced by one-third, and the safety of employees and the surrounding environment has been significantly improved.”
He added: “In addition, the factory is constructing a solar power plant to reduce energy consumption and minimize its environmental impact by utilizing clean energy. The permit for the construction of the power plant has been obtained from the Renewable Energy Authority (SATIA) and the location for the construction has also been determined. Currently, follow-ups are underway to obtain land from Natural Resources.”
Production achievements and industrial position
Engineer Noghabi emphasized that the Zarmehr Marlik factory, with its innovation and focus on domestic development, is a leader in the fields of concentrate, mineral processing, and the production of unique equipment.
He said: “The factory is now capable of processing gold with high capacity and standard quality. It also plays an effective role in the country’s industrial self-sufficiency by producing specialized equipment and machinery.”
He continued: “In addition to gold production, the factory is also active in the fields of mineral concentrate and purification, and by creating special equipment, it has reduced its dependence on foreign companies and resources. This factory is now known as a successful model in Iran’s gold and mining industry.”
Commitment to Sustainable Development Engineer Noghabi concluded by emphasizing: “All the achievements of the Zarmehr Marlik factory are the result of relying on indigenous knowledge, using domestic experts, and strictly observing environmental standards.
